DIY Heart Friendship Bracelet

This is a step by step tutorial on how to make a heart patterned friendship bracelet. It looks really complicated at the start, but actually it's just a repetition of the same steps over and over again so really everyone's able to make one of these!

You'll need two colors of embroidery floss and some tape to attach your bracelet to the table (or use a clipboard).

Start by cutting 4 strands of each color, about 70cm long. Ty them together in a knot and tape the knot to a flat working surface or clip it onto the clipboard. Separate the thread into 2 sets of 4 threads, 2 of each color on each side and arrange the strands as seen on this picture.

Start on the left side with the outermost strand and create a 4-shape over the second strand. Loop it under and back through the opening. Pull up to the right to tighten. Make the same knot again.

Continue knotting over each color towards the right until you reach the middle. Remember to make every knot twice!

Now you do the same at the right side: take the outermost strand and make a reverse 4-shape over the 2nd to last strand, loop it under and back through the opening. Pull to the left to tighten. Don't forget to knot twice and continue knotting towards the left until the outermost strand reaches the middle.

Make a double knot with the two middle strands to connect the two halves.

Repeat this for the second row using the same method: take the outermost strand and make two knots with the 4-shape over every strand until you reach the middle. Then, knot the two halves together again.

When your second row is finished, it gets a little bit more complicated. Take the second outermost strand at the left and make a backwards knot over the outermost strand. Again, make this knot twice. Repeat this on the right side: take the 2nd to last strand and make a forward knot over the outermost strand. Knot twice.

Now you complete the row by taking the second outermost strand and make forward knots over each strand until it reaches the middle. Don't forget to make every knot twice! Do the same at the right side and connect the middle strands. This forms the heart cleavage.

Repeat this special row again for the 4th row at the left and right side and again, connect the middle strands.

Now it's back to a normal row to close the heart. This means you make forward knots with the outermost strands moving inwards towards the middle, followed by connecting the middle strands together.

Knot another normal row and then again 2 special rows to form another heart. You can already see the pattern: 2 normal rows, 2 special rows, 2 normal rows, 2 special rows and so on.

Keep going until your bracelet is long enough to fit around the wrist.

Finish the bracelet with a big knot or add a spring clasp.
